This won't last. Or, it will.

Claude Code is phenomenal and in the right hands can deliver £8,000 - £12,000 of value each month for the cost of an £18/month subscription. That’s an astonishing ratio. Even if it is only used for an hour per month, it’s still worth the money. I know there are plenty of pushback articles and papers saying generative coding tools are actually reducing productivity. That hasn’t been my experience.

To the skeptics I say, “Ok then, lets take your ai tools away.”

I think we’re beyond the point of no return. Hand-crafted code is now like vinyl; some people will swear by it, most won’t care.

But for how much longer can this level of benefit be delivered at this price? Who knows? Developers seem to be benefitting from a price war between ai companies that are more focussed on getting across the finish line than maximising revenue. Nothing new about that in the world of startups. Some will fall by the wayside, others will become dominant. We know how the story goes.

I’d pay more (don’t tell them), others already do, subscribing to higher level plans and pushing them to the max.

I’m happy with my 12 armed, 6 brained, pair-coding buddy who just gets on with the work.

The first hit was for free, now I’m paying, but I could quit tomorrow, couldn’t I?
